the worlds greatest lie

this is a quote from my favorite novel, by my favorite author, Paulo Coehlo.
"it's a book that says the same thing almost all the other books in the world say ...it describes people's inability to choose their own destinies. and it ends up saying that everyone believes the worlds greatest lie"
"it's this: that at a certain point in our lives, we lose control of what's happening to us and our lives become controlled by fate. That's the worlds greatest lie."
-The Alchemist

people take the concept of 'fate' and 'destiny' to mean that their lives are already planned out for them and no matter what they do, things will end up in a certain way regardless. well.. although i'm not 100% set on my own theory, but i believe in more along the lines of the butterfly effect. that every action, thought, word, sets into motion a chain of other events in your life, and others lives. if you can believe that you deserve or want something for yourself, for the good of yourself or others, then the universe will make it happen for you. the worst thing a person can do for themselves is to sit idly awaiting 'fate' or 'destiny' to do the work for them..
